2009 Alternatives and Gift Aid Form

The Coach House is wholly owned by The Balmore Trust to which it covenants all its profits. It thus acts as a fund-raising vehicle for the Trust It is also a fair-trade business which aims to market goods from small scale producers in the poorer areas of the world, to give them a fair price for their goods, to provide financial stability for them and to contribute to their communities. It is run by a full-time manager, Sue Bond and three week-end supervisors: Jackie and Linda Marshall and Anne Lawrance. It is otherwise staffed entirely by volunteers.

Location: The Coach House is located at the cross-roads in Balmore, on the A807 1 mile west of Torrance to the north of Glasgow.

bulletFairly traded foods: jams, honeys, pickles, sauces and chutney; dried fruits and vegetables, pulses, nuts, muesli, coffees, teas, chocolates, sweets, biscuits and juices. We are particularly proud of our range of preserves from Swaziland which we import ourselves and which we also wholesale to other shops.

bulletA very large selection from the Traidcraft catalogue: foods, crafts, clothes and jewellery.
bulletOther fair trade suppliers: Bishopton, New Overseas Traders, People Tree, Shared Earth, Wonderworld and Tearfund.

Our range of crafts is changing all the time: you may find woven mohair wall-hangings from Lesotho, stone carvings from Kenya, Zimbabwe and Zambia, Thuya wood from Morocco, musical instruments from West and Central Africa, cushion covers from India and Africa, alpaca scarves, hats and gloves from Peru.

We stock a large range of cards, stationery and books, and for the latter part of the year, charity Christmas cards and calendars.

We also have a second-hand book cabin which is supplied by generous donors and is always worth a browse. We welcome and are most grateful for donations of good quality second-hand books.

The Coach House hosts a number of exhibitions and other events and can be used by charities with similar aims for fund-raising purposes. If you are interested, you should speak to Sue Bond (01360 620 742) who, with the Trust's agreement, will allocate a day on which all the profits will be given to your charity. It's then up to you to see that your supporters come along and buy! We are also happy to open in the evenings, by arrangement, for groups who would like to hear more about the work of the Trust and the shop and to do some shopping. Again, speak to Sue Bond. We can also provide speakers and a stall for meetings.
