Projects

The Balmore Trust works with partners in the UK and in Africa and Asia in the areas of health, education, the alleviation of poverty and community development.  Its policy is to work with small grass-roots organisations with local project workers supporting community initiatives.  The Trust aims to build up a working relationship with its partners which may last over many years.  In most cases we have been introduced to our partners through personal links: through members of the Trust, through customers in our shop, or through visitors, such as students, in Glasgow.

For the most part the Trust’s role is very much a supporting one, making grants, seeking other UK partners who can support and fund particular projects.  Occasionally, we have been more actively involved, as in Burma, where we have worked closely with the project leaders as well as taking a major part in fund-raising.

Our policy is to give two thirds of our ‘free’ money (moneys raised by our shop or by non-specific donations to the Trust) to projects overseas, one third to home projects, mostly in the West of Scotland.  Moneys raised directly for a particular project go directly and without any deduction to the project for which they were given.

Over the years we have built up a portfolio of high quality small-scale partners with whom we have close relations and we are happy to advise those looking to support small scale development projects.  We are able to provide regular feed-back on the progress of projects.
